The latest in a series of one, a new lazy WordPress website. Being averse to hard work I didn’t want the hassle of setting up a website from scratch, developing themes etc., setting a style. WordPress fits the bill, at a price with Fasthosts that doesn’t exceed the raw hosting costs. Unfortunately the automation doesn’t include actually generating content. At least I can rest content that I am now part of 43% of the Internet that uses WP (now 43.0000001%).

Themes and Fonts

Immediately I can see some issues that will require a bit of investigation. First off, fonts. I will admit to a dislike of serif fonts. This is probably down to starting with computers at a time when punched cards for input and fixed width fonts from a teletype printer were the sole method to communicate with computers. Even graphics were ASCII only. This was a time when there were advantages with fixed width fonts. If you can’t plan the output then the pictures generally break down. So picking the right theme was a critical first step, and Hemingway fits the bill nicely.

I also need to figure out how to make ad hoc page changes. Inserting just a sheet of images somewhere linked for the text, or maps (Google probably, haven’t found a better presentation anywhere). Again, the theme should offer some interesting possibilities. Where it doesn’t I may have to resort to my very basic coding skills. HTML still works with Notepad, no?

Fasthosts, again

One thing that doesn’t concern me is running out of space or resources. It’s highly unlikely that this will ever grow too large (or popular) that it stretches Fasthosts’ provisions. As I said at the beginning, it’s a lazy WordPress website to cover random thoughts. However hard I try (OK, that may be a bit outside the project scope) I’ll not be one to make earth shattering announcements
